Fires happen at Colleges and Universities all the time in the United States. Here are some things that you can do to help prevent them.
· Keep spaces free of excess boxes, paper, and other things that can catch fire easily and keep them clear from electrical equipment and cords
· Don't use items such as candles, incents, or hot plates since they are many times the culprit in how a fire starts and as such they are prohibited on any Campus facility.
· Know your exits. Know how to get out if it is dark and you just woke up. Fire doesn't wait to happen until you are ready so be prepared.
· Know your evacuation assembly area. Grab only the bare essentials and get out in when you see smoke, fire or you hear an alarm. Pull the alarm to warn others if you see smoke or fire.
· In case of a fire or fire alarm and you have evacuated, don't go back in until the Fire Department or Trinity Police Department tells you it's ok.
Your life and health is more important than any building or property so getting out should be your first priority. If the fire is small and you can put it out with a Fire Extinguisher make sure you know what you are doing. Check out this video on tips.
