Network Storage and Drive Mappings
Trinity maintains several network storage drives where users may store and access data. These network drive mappings may be found by opening the “My Computer” icon on your desktop or by Clicking the “Start” button and selecting “My Computer”. Not all users will have access to all drives.
Below, you will find information on the function and proper usage of the various drive mappings available.
N: Drive – Faculty Class Folders
Faculty who wish to share class information with students may request a folder on the N: drive form Helpdesk@trinity.edu. Students have file permissions to view and execute files but cannot modify or delete.
S: Drive – Software Library
The S: drive contains software the university currently has licensed or software that is shareware.
T: Drive – Application Software
The T: drive is used by the ITS Application Group to share applications with select departments. Not every department has a folder on the T: Drive.
U: Drive – Personal Storage (Faculty/Staff)
The U: drive is the personal "user" drive for faculty and staff. Only ITS systems administrators and the account owner can access the private U: drive. Each Faculty and Staff member has 5 Gigabytes of available disk storage that can also be accessed anytime, anywhere by clicking on the “My Briefcase” tab in Tiger’s Lair (http://my.trinity.edu). Information saved on the U: drive is backed up daily. Files stored on the U: drive should be reviewed periodically and old files deleted or archived to CD and stored in a secure location.
V: Drive – Department and Shared Common Folder
Each department has a folder on the V: drive, listed by its abbreviated department name. Access to information stored on the V: drive is limited to members of the department with the exception of the COMMON folder.
The COMMON folders were established so that departments may share information with individuals in other departments for collaboration purposes. This folder and any sub folder in the COMMON folder can be made available to other individuals by submitting a written request from the department chair or department head. The request must be made by emaie-mail the Helpdesk@trinity.edu so the proper access permissions may be established.
Caution must be exercised when using the V: drive and especially the COMMON folder. As with the U: drive, periodic deletion and archiving of old information should be dealt with appropriately.
W: Drive – Web Folders
The W: drive contains department web folders along with faculty and staff folders for creating web sites. Department folders are listed in the “Trinity” folder and user folders are contained in the “Users” folder, listed by username. Please note: Anything placed into these folders becomes accessible to everyone on the Internet.
Y: Drive – Personal Storage (Students)
The Y: drive is the personal "user" drive for students. Only ITS systems administrators and the account owner can access the private Y: drive. Each student has 500 MB of available disk storage that can also be accessed anytime, anywhere by clicking on the “My Briefcase” tab in Tiger’s Lair (http://my.trinity.edu). Information saved on the Y: drive is backed up daily. Files stored on the Y: drive should be reviewed periodically and old files deleted or archived to CD and stored in a secure location.
