TITLE: SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR: NETWORKS, SECURITY & SYSTEMS SERVICES
DEPARTMENT: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SERVICES
The primary role of the System Administrator is to provide systems and network support for the Trinity Library, including support for the Innovative Interfaces Millennium library system. Also provides support for other web-based services as the campus portal and the course management system.
Duties:
1. Provide systems support for Innovative Interfaces Millennium Library System. These duties include installation of system upgrades, server maintenance, troubleshooting, report generation and integration with various other campus systems.
2. Library web site support including working with OPAC web pages, proxy server maintenance and web page report generation.
3. Assist with the installation and maintenance of new systems as they relate to the Library. Including systems such as UniPrint, network support, and video streaming support.
4. Work with library systems staff and librarians to provide training and create documentation as needed.
5. Support and maintain the campus portal and course management system.
6. Constantly improve personal knowledge and skills to stay abreast of rapidly changing information system technologies.
7. Provide high level technical assistance to application system development personnel, operators and Help Desk staff.
8. Work with vendors and in-house staff to help determine the cause of a system failure. Locate and apply preventative or corrective service to problem components.
9. Develop utilities, exits, and special routines to enhance and expand operating system functionality.
10. Review and modify system backup procedures to improve system integrity.
11. Inform users and Information Technology and Library staff of changes in technical procedures. Provide written documentation when necessary.
12. Support operating systems and network, often at odd hours and under pressure, to maintain the integrity of the operation.
13. Perform other duties as required.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science or a related field, or three years of experience as a system administrator or system programmer in a multiple operating system environment.
- Knowledge of two or more of the following platforms is essential: Sun Solaris, Oracle, Windows 2003 and 2008 server, and Windows Vista and Windows 7 desktop.
- Knowledge of software used to create and maintain Internet web sites and portals, including Internet Information Server, Apache/Tomcat, PHP, XML, JavaScript, Microsoft SharePoint, and Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration server.
- Excellent organizational, verbal and written communications skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with professionals, technical staff and management.
